How Should the Puppy Vaccination Schedule Be?

Puppy

Adopting a new puppy adds great joy to your life. However, one of the most important steps for this tiny creature to lead a healthy life is a correct vaccination program that will strengthen the immune system.

Why Should We Vaccinate?

Puppies have temporary protection thanks to the "colostrum" (first milk) they receive from their mothers when they are born. However, this protection decreases within a few weeks. Vaccines activate the body's defense mechanism against diseases that can be fatal, such as Parvovirus (Distemper), Bloody Diarrhea, and Rabies.

Basic Vaccination Schedule (Example)

Although every dog's lifestyle and region vary, the generally accepted schedule is as follows:

Time Vaccine Type
6-8. Week Parasite Applications & Combined Vaccine 1
9-11. Week Combined Vaccine 2 & Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
12-14. Week Combined Vaccine 3 & Rabies Vaccine
16. Week + Lyme and Fungal Vaccines (As needed)

Things to Consider Before and After Vaccination

Before vaccination, your dog must be cleared of internal and external parasites. Since the immune system cannot work at full capacity in a body with parasites, the desired efficiency from the vaccine cannot be obtained.

Slight weakness or loss of appetite after vaccination can be considered normal, but in cases such as swelling in the face or severe vomiting, you should consult your veterinarian immediately.
